Hi there, I'm Fran!
Librarian turned creative + modern quilter
I'm the face behind Cotton + Joy. I first learned to quilt while pregnant with my oldest in 2014. I was taught by a long-time quilter and it was a way for me to express my creativity and connect with like-minded women.
However, it wasn't until 2018 when I encountered the modern quilting movement that I was forever hooked.
Before starting Cotton + Joy I worked 8 years as a web designer. I originally created this space as a way to share my quilty adventures, but the designer in me couldn't help to create my own patterns.
I love pattern design and contributing to the long tradition of quilting. My aim is to create a fast-finishes that anyone, from inexperienced beginners to long-time quilters, can enjoy making.
THINGS THAT MAKE ME GO WOAH:
a good cup of tea, the ocean, modern typography,
Florence and the Machine, tacos, rainy days, and reading under a blanket.
Let's Get Personal
Born and raised in Santiago, Chile I moved to the U.S. alongside my mom in 2004 in search for our version of the American dream. When I was a senior in high school, I began working at the local library and it was during this time that I discovered my love for reading and helping people.
As a young newlywed, I was unsure about what to do when it came to my education until one day it hit me: I needed to work at a library again. So, I finished my Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at the University of Washington and immediately jumped in into my Master of Science in Library and Information Science, graduating in March 2016 from UW's iSchool.
I'm currently residing in the Pacific Northwest, alongside my husband, our two fur babies and our two tiny humans, Joey and Ben.
